Chelsea might be in some... trouble

Chelsea drama, Bundesliga history made, and UEFA 2024

Happy Friday Footyfam,

We’re back with another Friday roundup, and let me tell you, there’s a lot going on this week.

Today’s letter is stuffed with the news we found most important through last week - and it’ll only take you 5 minutes to read!

Let’s get into it.

Match of the week:

Argentina vs Brazil | Tuesday, Nov. 21 - 7:30pm EST

The international break is not disappointing this time around.

The world champions are looking strong in the early days of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, sitting strongly at the top of the table with four wins and a loss (keep an eye on Uruguay).

Brazil, on the other hand, could use the momentum of a result against Argentina.

They’ve dropped down to 5th after a loss to Colombia last night, a loss to Uruguay, and a draw to Venezuela.

A loss this weekend could drop them out of qualifying range.

Of course, both teams are known for their offensive firepower, so we expect to see a high-tempo, heated match.

Should be a ton of fun to watch.

If you’re a Chelsea fan, you might want to brace yourself. You’re probably in for a bumpy ride.

There have been some questions as to how Roman Abramovich, Chelsea’s former owner, funded the club, and some leaked documents may point to some financial fair play violations.

The club has already been fined £8.6 million by UEFA, but they have some limitations since they can only look at documents that go back 3 years.

However, the FA is taking a deeper look into what’s been going on.

To sum it up, it seems like Abmramovich may have been using outside companies (that he owned) in an attempt to sweeten deals with off-record payments.

This can be seen in acquiring some of their most influential names like Conte, Hazard, Willian, Eto’o.

Things aren’t looking great for the boys in blue.

You can read more about it here, but we need to keep moving.

Marie-Louise Eta and Union Berlin to make Bundesliga history

After losing nine straight and finding themselves at the bottom of the table, Union Berlin sacked Urs Fischer.

In the interim, they’ve appointed Marco Grote as manager and Marie-Louise Eta as an assistant.

It might seem like the normal process, but this move is historical.

With their match against Augsburg this weekend, Eta will become the first woman coach to appear on a Bundesliga sideline.

And it’s well deserved, too.

As a player, Eta won three successive Bundesliga titles and a Champion’s League title.

adidas unveil the 2024 UEFA official match ball

We’re still seven months away, but adidas is ready for 2024 festivities.

Just a few days ago, they unveiled their stunning match ball that we’ll see rolling around at the UEFA Championships next year.

Its name? FUSSBALLLIEBE, which means ‘love of football.’

They’ve also managed to squeeze in a color representing each of the 55 UEFA members’ flags.
